Give your ideas space
New shapes for your MIDI patterns
With the new tools for MIDI transformations, you can create simple and complex variations. You can use them to create ornaments and arpeggios, draw curves for speeding up and slowing down notes, connect consecutive notes and chords or simulate guitar strums.
Always fresh inspiration
Constantly create new melodies, chords and rhythms with the new MIDI generators. Choose a generator, give it rules for lively and unique patterns and let the results flow into your own ideas.
Do even more with Max for Live
New transformation tools and generators for Max for Live let you go deeper with MIDI. You can also develop your own MIDI tools.
Play in familiar and new tunings
Play in your favorite tuning system or discover tunings you've never heard before. Get out of equal temperament and use your tuning systems in Live's applications and all MPE-enabled plug-ins and hardware instruments.
Stay in your key
Transform and generate ideas within a selected key or synchronize the key of MIDI applications and instruments to the clip currently playing.
Edit MIDI more easily
Use your keyboard and mouse to edit MIDI in new ways. Split a note into two or more parts. Join a selection of notes or spread them evenly over a period of time. Plus, there are now more tools in the Note Utilities panel on the left to customize your notes to a key, make them sound more human, and add intervals.
Modulate more flexibly
Maintain control over parameters that have already been mapped to a modulation source. Max-for-Live applications such as LFO, Shaper and Envelope Follower now let you freely edit the destination that is being modulated.
Find inspiration
When you play with the new instruments and effects in Live 12, you'll quickly find new textures and techniques - the perfect starting point for experimentation.
Immerse yourself in sounds with Meld
Live's new MPE-enabled synthesizer focuses on sonic variety, playfulness and character. Two independent oscillators and an extensive modulation matrix make Meld the perfect instrument for textural soundscapes, harmonic and atonal sounds and rhythmic drones. Meld's macro oscillators give you easy access to complex waveforms from a wide range of synthesis methods. Choose from subtractive, FM, granular synthesis or other sources, quantize the oscillators to a key and use the LFOs of one oscillator to control those of the other.
More color with Roar
Wrap your sounds in subtle warmth or let them grow beyond themselves with wild distortion. Live's new coloring and saturation tool has three degrees of saturation that you can use in series, parallel or in mid/side and multiband configurations. The integrated compressor and feedback routing give you even more options for shaping your sound. The modulation section lets you play with dynamics, moving saturation and colors.
