Description

Waldorf Microwave 1 Plugin - Lizenz Code Product Details

35 years ago, Waldorf Music revolutionized the music market with the Microwave. The instrument took the hearts of the leading musicians and producers of the 90s by storm. Its unique sound translated the wavetable sounds of the 80s into the emerging electronic dance music of the following decade. Now Waldorf is bringing the magical instrument back to the digital workstations of producers and musicians worldwide in software form.

Massive basslines, mysterious wavetable modulations, brutal attacks and pads as smooth as silk - these sounds have inspired generations of musicians. The Microwave defines what hybrid synthesis is at its best. Its unique interpretation of wavetable synthesis combined with analog filters set the standard.

Waldorf has painstakingly recreated the Microwave 1 plugin from the original hardware - with all its idiosyncrasies and peculiarities - over several years of passionate, painstaking work. Every sonic detail was analyzed and modeled.‍ The unique sound was based on self-developed digital and analog designs long before the following generations of DSP-based instruments were developed.

Only the first generation of the Microwave and also the Waldorf Wave were based on a specially developed integrated circuit called the Waldorf ASIC. In combination with the legendary Curtis filter chips and a unique 68k CPU-based controller software, the ASIC defined a very special kind of wavetable sound that is second to none. None other than the inventor of wavetable synthesis in the 1980s, Wolfgang Palm, helped to develop this unique chip. Waldorf spared no effort in analyzing this integrated circuit and reproducing it in the plug-in. The Plug-n performs the internal synthesis at the extremely high sampling rate of 250 kHz - regardless of the DAW's sampling rate. The recreated digital waveforms are compared bit for bit with the original, guaranteeing a 100% match. The digital noise has been recreated with all its wonderful artifacts - exactly as it should be.

Even the digital-to-analog converters of the original hardware have been recreated with their non-linearities and timbres that led to the two Curtis filter chips used for revisions A and B of the original hardware. The plugin also allows for artificial detuning and recalibration of the analog components.

Brutal attacks, biting decays and a wealth of wonderful transients - this is the sound of the first generation Microwave. Its ability to never sound mechanical, but always different, is based on a unique architecture for generating envelopes, LFOs and modulations. This has been carefully recreated by the plugin down to the smallest detail.

However, the Microwave 1 plugin goes one step further: it presents a modern graphical user interface that offers a comprehensive insight into the synthesis engine. This was hidden in the original hardware by its sparse and difficult to use interface. The fully scalable interface is modern and clearly laid out. The legible, high-contrast fonts ensure intuitive operation. Graphical representations of the wavetables, envelopes and filter response curves as well as animations for modulations and playing positions support sound editing.

Waldorf has also brought the inner values of the Microwave to the surface. The user can now easily edit existing wavetables and create new ones in a unique and intuitive process - based on the internal control tables. All original wavetables are available with their control structures and the complete original waveform catalog - no ifs, ands or buts. But that's not all: in addition to user wavetables, user waveforms can also be created within the plugin. The additional randomization modes provide a sonically surprising experience like never before.

Multimode now becomes the ultimate weapon for sound design. The plug-in user interface now makes layering individual sounds a breeze. Even the most complex and exciting sound structures can be created in no time at all. The user-friendly mixer page allows you to fine-tune the sonic relationships. Even the more exotic functions such as tuning and velocity tables have of course been implemented and can be edited in the user interface.

All factory single and multimode sounds are included in the plugin, in combination with new and modern sound presets. Original MIDI and Sys-Ex dump files can also be imported.
