Digitech DOD Chthonic Fuzz

The Chthonic Fuzz (pronounced THAH-nik) produces fat, lush, muddy fuzz tones that pair perfectly with single-coil, P90, Gold Foil and DeArmond pickups. It also works great with PAF humbuckers, but this fuzz was designed with brighter guitars and bright, clean amps in mind.

Based on a popular 70s single-knob fuzz circuit, experiments were first conducted with a subtle tone control (Lustre) and then a separate gain control (Fuzz). The result is a simple but powerful fuzz with an earthy, dark character. Transistor clipping with a pair of 2N2222 transistors allows you to clean up the guitar's volume control, similar to other classic fuzzes, but the Chthonic comes from a different dimension. Think of it as a kind of classic fuzz from an alternate universe.

The Kraken/Cthulhu graphic of the Chthonic is by the same artist who drew the Carcosa Fuzz. The Chthonic is a psychotic dizygotic dark companion to the Carcosa Fuzz, taking its place in the pantheon of the underworld.
