Grooveboxes

Grooveboxes are devices that combine sampler/synthesizer with a drum computer and a sequencer. Roland coined the term MC-303 in 1996 and grooveboxes are full-fledged - independent of PC/Mac - devices for music production and are especially popular in techno and hip-hop.

The composition of music is done through programmed patterns (short rhythmic/musical structures) which can be looped and combined from different tracks. The individual tracks and samples can of course be edited using effects and filters. Due to their features and compact design, grooveboxes are often used live.
