Western Guitars

Western guitars - sometimes called folk or steelstring guitars - are acoustic string instruments. They are distinguished from concert or classical guitars by the strings that are applied. Western guitars are provided with steel core strings which generate a brilliant, powerful sound and this is promoted further by the body of the guitar. The bodies of western guitars are hollow and their tops are mostly made of spruce or cedar. There are different types of designs like dreadnought, grand auditorium, auditorium, or parlour and western guitars can also have a cutaway which allows easier access to the upper frets.

Western guitars are often equipped with piezoelectric or electromagnetic pickups in order to use them in a band or live situation. When recorded in a Studio these guitars almost always are miked with studio microphones.
