Basses 4-String P-Style

When Fender launched the Precision Bass in 1951, it was the first mass produced solid body bass ever. The original idea was to offer an electric bass to complete their range of electric guitars. The idea of building it with a solid body was born from the experience they had from the development of the Telecaster and it would made transporting the instrument much easier. A lot of bass players were playing double basses at this point and therefore had to deal with very bulky instruments. The name Precision refers to the frets on the neck that allow for precise intonation. Leo Fender also favoured fretted necks because guitar players would be able to get used to these instruments more quickly.

A list with Precision players of great renown would be nearly endless, some of the most famous are: Roger Waters (Pink Floyd), Sting, Duff McKagan (Guns N' Roses), Nate Mendel (Foo Fighters), Steve Harris (Iron Maiden) or Dee Dee Ramone (Ramones). The Precision is at home in many music styles and has a lot of fans amongst bass players.

Typically a Precision is built with an alder or ash body with a maple neck and split coil pickups. Throughout the years various configurations with different wood combinations have been developed. Overall the Precision features a warm and direct tone with strong mids.
