Semi Acoustic Guitars
Semi Acoustic Guitars
Semi Acoustics are electric guitars that have a resonance chamber as opposed to solid body guitars. They were introduced in the 50ies and were mostly played in rock ‘n’ roll and blues music. Today they are also used in pop or folk music and the most different styles of rock music. Within semi acoustic guitars there is a distinction between semi-hollow body and hollow body guitars.
A lot of artists such as Chuck Berry, Farin Urlaub (Die Ärzte), Brian Setzer, Steve Howe (Yes) or Mike Campbell (Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers) value the direct, percussive sound of semi acoustic guitars.
Its type of construction is very similar to that of a jazz guitar but with a flatter body and arched tops are not mandatory. The f-holes are typical design features one will find on almost every semi acoustic instrument. Semi-hollow body guitars have a built in massive wooden block that prevents the top from vibrating too heavily when played very loud or with distortion.
