LP-Style Guitars
The Les Paul model is produced by Gibson since 1952 and was their first solid body guitar. It was planned and developed with the help of guitarist Lester William Polsfuss (nick name: Les Paul). The look of the guitar is often compared to the shape of the female body.
After initial difficulties the Les Paul became very popular in the 60ies and was the guitar of choice for well-known artists like Jimmy Page (Led Zeppelin) or Eric Clapton (John Mayalls Bluesbreakers, Cream).
Since then the number of Les Paul enthusiasts grew continuously and this guitar has become a trademark of players like Slash (Guns N’ Roses, Velevet Revolver), Zakk Wylde (Ozzy Osbourne, Black Label Society), Gary Moore or Paul Landers (Rammstein).
The Les Paul consists of a mahogany body with a maple top and a mahogany neck. Its basic form reminds of that of a classical guitar and is provided with a cutaway. Usually a Les Paul is equipped with two humbuckers and a 3-way toggle switch. Because of its warm and powerful sound this guitar is at home in various genres from blues to metal.
