ST-Style Guitars
In the year 1952 Fender presented the Stratocaster and since then this model is one of the most known and most popular guitar designs. Countless guitarists play it as their main instrument or have used them at least on some occasions.
Some well-known Stratocaster players are Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Ritchie Blackmore (Deep Purple) or Mark Knopfler (Dire Straits). But the Stratocaster is not only viable in rock or blues scenarios as demonstrated by artists like Dave Murray (Iron Maiden), Ingwie Malmsteen or Mike Stern.
The design of the Strat is famous and timeless. Usually it consists of an alder or ash body with a bolted on maple neck. They are most often equipped with three single coil pickups and a 5-way switch. But there are other specifications with humbuckers or 3-way switches available as well.
The basic sound of the Stratocaster is glassy and transparent with a certain punch. The various pickup combinations allow for a broad variety of sounds from modest rhythm to shimmery, bell-like lead. The Stratocaster is famous for its playability and therefore should be part of every guitar collection.
